There are few important historical dates coming up in 2012. One of then is the Titanic Centennial. April 15, 2012, marks the 100 year anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. Lots of cities, people, and companies want to commemorate its loss. Here are some Titanic commemoration events you can attend:

- Titanic 100 takes place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in April 2012. Venture to Nova Scotia's Maritime Museum of the Atlantic to see an large permanent Titanic exhibit and take in special events planned for a the anniversary. After Belfast, where the Titanic was built, Halifax is the second-most-important Titanic city in the world because of its historic sites. Halifax boasts three Titanic cemeteries and 24 other Titanic sites.

-Also Louisiana will celebrate its bi-centennial, while New Mexico and Arizona will mark their centennial.

-You can also take on The Titanic Memorial Cruises that  will follow the same route as Titanic: The Titanic Memorial Cruise on the Balmoral or Azamara Journey.

The War of 1812 Bicentennial is a series of planned events to commemorate the War of 1812 in the United States and Canada during the war's bicentenary. Check out some of the activities planned at heritage sites in Quebec. A significant portion of the war took place in Canada and is important in Canadian, US and British history.

As you plan your travel year, you might want to keep in mind 150th anniversary of Cinco de Mayo. Cinco de Mayo is annually observed on May 5, the anniversary of a victory in 1862 in the fight for independence from French forces. It is a festival of Mexican pride and heritage in the United States. One of the largest Cinco de Mayo celebrations are in cities such as Los Angeles, San Jose, San Francisco, San Antonio, Sacramento, Phoenix, Albuquerque, Denver and El Paso in the USA's south-western regions.
